It’s obvious that every curly girl wants to have frizz-free, soft, and defined hair. Although this can be a hard goal to achieve, if you find the best products and routine, you can achieve it. If you are always fighting with frizz, and want to define your curls, just check out this post.
Know your hair type to know how to define your curly hair
Before you start using any product and try new methods, and routines, you should get to know your hair type. This can help you choose the best product, and also help you find the best routine. Remember that you should never buy and use a product without knowing that it is suitable for your hair type. If you want to get more information, you can read Hair Type – Every Thing About It.
Don’t shampoo too much
If you include shampoo in your everyday routine, you are drying out your scalp and natural oils. This can lead to many problems which are not going to provide defined curls. If you want to define your curly hair more, always use a moisturizing conditioner after the wash process. If you want to know how often you should wash your hair based on your hair type, take a look at How Often Should You Wash Your Hair. Don’t use a regular towel
Using a regular towel to dry your hair can cause frizz and also breakage. You should use a microfiber towel or a soft cotton t-shirt for hair drying. Always dry your hair gently and slowly. If you want to define your curly hair, avoid regular towels, and don’t forget about a microfiber towel. Check Flora & Curl Gentle Curl Towel if you’re looking for a perfect towel for your curls.

Try LOC method to define your curly hair
Try the LOC method, if you are looking for a great method that not only moisturizes your hair but also defines your curly hair. This method that I’m talking about is the LOC method which stands for Liquid Oil Cream. The LOC method is just a guide for a way to apply hair products. Although it seems just like 3 simple ways, it can do magic for most hair types. If you want to try this, first read LOC And LCO For Curly Hair.
Don’t use oils on wet curls
The best results usually come from styling wet hair with water-based products. You can use oil in your hair if you do not want it in ringlets. Water-based, gel-like products, though, give good hold while keeping frizz at bay and will not disrupt your style. When your hair is completely dry, you can add a small amount of oil to give it more sheen or softness. Use lightweight, natural picks like argan, coconut, jojoba, or grapeseed oil.
Never touch dry curls
Although it is fun to touch dry curls, if you are looking for a defined curl, you should not try that. Touching curls can remove the styling products that you used, and also ruin the pattern you want to achieve. Touching after the hair dries can also cause frizz, and I’m sure we are not looking for more frizz.
Air dry is a great choice
Letting your hair dry with air is great for defining your curly hair. It takes more time, but it is worth the result. If you are in a hurry, don’t use heat tools on high settings which can cause frizz. Use the low heat setting instead to avoid any problems.
Scrunch if needed
Not everybody needs to scrunch. Sometimes scrunching is useful for curling wavy hair. When you’ve applied your products and combed them to your satisfaction, allow your hair to air-dry as much as possible before scrunching it. If you want to add volume, scrunch nearly-dry hair as you diffuse it, and focus your scrunching only on the ends. If you want to learn more about gel cast a scrunching, check What Is Gel Cast.
Split ends prevent you from defining your curly hair
If you have split ends, it’s not going to let you have defined curls. The best thing that you can do is to have a trim. I’m not talking about a full haircut. Just get a trim to remove the split ends. Although I recommend that you go to a professional hair stylist if you want to trim yourself, remember not to use regular scissors.
